Marking the beginning of auto show season, Honda took the opportunity to unveil the zero-emission FC Sport Concept at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The design emphasizes a sleek, low-profile silhouette and angular geometry on the exterior surfaces.A modular design approach to the vehicles drivetrain components allowed Honda engineers to distribute the majority of the mass of the vehicle between the axles. This placement directly benefits the handling performance of the car making it more fun to drive. The list of drivetrain components is fairly standard compared to other hydrogen fuel cell vehicles out there. Honda did look to innovate how these components were integrated into the vehicle design though. For instance, the hydrogen storage tanks are placed above the rear axle and covered with a glass panel. They were designed to be on display and look much like Nitros Oxide tanks that drag racers and import tuners add to their cars today to boost performance.
The interior takes inspiration from a single seater race car. The driver’s seat is centrally located. Passengers sit to either side. Getting in and out of the vehicle happens not through opening a door, but raising the passenger canopy similar to the Saab Aero X Concept from a few years back.
